Exercise: “People You’re Jealous Of”

What you will get out of this

Before, we listed out and examined the role models whom we admire. Just as valuable are the people we’re jealous and envious of. Being honest about who we feel jealousy towards and why is important to uncover beliefs that are emotionally and intuitively intriguing to us. Shifting our jealousy towards inspiration is important to prevent our rational brains from censoring these beliefs.

This exercise helps us identify what truly intrigues us by examining the root of why we feel jealous and envious towards certain other people, and shifting those feelings towards inspiration.

Step 1: Unmasking Your Envy

Take a gentle, honest journey into your emotions over the past couple of months. Were there moments when you felt a pang of jealousy or envy towards someone? These could be people close to you, acquaintances, or even public figures. Jot down their names in a list.

Beside each name, delve deeper and explore the source of your jealousy.

  1. Is it because they've reached a milestone you've dreamt of? Perhaps they've accomplished a goal you once abandoned?
  2. Is it the way others perceive them that kindles your envy?
  3. Or is it their outlook on life, their disposition, or their innate grit?

Open your heart and be sincere in your reflections.

Then, spotlight the personal strengths, traits, and qualities that you believe directly contribute to your feelings of envy. These are the attributes that they leverage to achieve what you desire.

The traits that spark your envy could be your heart's way of pointing out values that you wish to embrace in your own life. It's worth taking the time to explore these further. Your envy might just be an invitation for your growth.
